Do not buy from measurements alone

Three-across fit depends on the width and shape of the specific child seats, not just the width of the rear bench. Buckle placement, seat contours and front-seat position can all change the result.

If three-across is non-negotiable, bring your actual seats to the dealership and install them before you buy. It is the only test that answers the question for your family.

Defender is where I would start

For a family prioritizing child-seat flexibility, I would start by looking at Defender 110 and 130 configurations because their family-and-utility focus makes them natural candidates.

The 130 becomes especially interesting if your goal is not necessarily three-across, but having more seating positions so you can separate children and keep access to cargo space.

Range Rover and Range Rover Sport

A full-size Range Rover offers a generous cabin, but you still need to test the exact seat combination. A Range Rover Sport can work very well for families, but it is a five-seat vehicle, so three child seats means all three are sharing the second row.

If you frequently carry another adult or grandparent, think beyond whether three seats fit. Ask whether the remaining passenger arrangement still works.

Rear-facing seats are the toughest test

Rear-facing seats usually demand more front-to-back room than forward-facing seats or boosters. A setup that works perfectly for three older children may be uncomfortable when two seats are rear-facing.

Put the tallest front-seat driver in position first, then install the child seat behind them. That prevents you from finding a technically successful car-seat fit that makes the front seat unusable.

Safety comes before convenience

Always install and use child restraints according to the child-seat manufacturer instructions and the vehicle owner's manual. If you are unsure, use a qualified child-passenger-safety resource for installation guidance.

From a buying standpoint, my role is to help you find the vehicle that gives you enough physical room to use your approved seats correctly and comfortably.

COMMON BUYING QUESTIONS

FAQ

Can three car seats fit in a Defender 110?

It may be possible depending on the exact child seats and configuration, but you should test your actual three seats before buying.

Is a Defender 130 better for three kids?

The extra seating flexibility can make family logistics easier, especially if you prefer not to put all three children across one row.

Can you guarantee a specific car seat will fit?

No. Car-seat designs vary significantly. The safest approach is to test your exact seats and follow both the vehicle and child-seat manufacturer instructions.
